Philasdelphia Phillies, Contenders or Pretenders, by Tom Freese
The 2007 Philadelphia Phillies won the NL East last year not so much by how well they played, but how poorly the New York Mets played.

The Perfect Ticket: Barack Obama's Running Mate (and King Creole's ODDS!)
Stick a fork in Hillary Clinton. It's just about a 'done deal' for Barack Obama as the democratic candidate for president. At this stage of the game, Clinton needs a miracle.... or in sports terms, a "Hail Mary". If the current Obama / Clinton race were a sporting event, we can compare it two different ways.

MLB Umpires
It is quite surprising that some umpires not only have home and road dichotomy's, a surprisingly high number also have 'Over' and 'Under' tendencies.

Home Court Dominance and Physical Play
Home court has been the theme of these NBA Playoffs. Frenzied crowds and inspired play, not to mention favorable calls by the refs, have all combined give the home teams a significant edge. The Hawks/Celtics series was the poster child, with the home team going a perfect 7-0 SU/ATS.

Earlyl Round 2 NBA Playoff Magic
This stage of the post-season can be a little tricky. The First Round tends to be somewhat predictable with a couple of the league’s bottom-feeders on the court. That’s not the case in the Conference Semi-Finals.

WANG-tastic
Chien-Ming Wang has for the last two plus seasons been over shadowed not by performances or results, but by two other starters that have been given more air time on ESPN.

Sunshine State Bullpens Lead Baseball
Relief pitching is often an underrated aspect of baseball handicapping but it is no coincidence that some of the top money teams in baseball through the first month of the season are also among the leaders in bullpen ERA. The two teams in Florida are a big surprise to currently be ranked as the top two bullpens in baseball based on ERA and the Marlins and Rays may be more than just April upstarts.

Questionable 3-0 MLB Starters?
Most people recognize that 'Wins' is a somewhat overrated statistic for determining the quality of starting pitchers but baseball side bettors are not necessarily looking for the best statistical pitchers, just pitchers that help teams win. Every year several pitchers start the year strong with wins in April and it can be easy to put too much stock into the early season results. Here is our analysis of some of the starters off to 3-0 starts in the first three weeks of the season.

How to use MLB ERA & WHIP as Part of the Handicapping Process
When handicapping baseball, bettors have a vast array of statistics at their disposal. The first thing that jumps out at a bettor is either a player's batting average or a pitcher's ERA.

Young Pitchers to Watch
In the 2006 season several rookie pitchers posted great numbers and paid out big money to backers with great results. Justin Verlander, Francisco Liriano, and Jered Weaver were the three rookie goldmines that tore up the American League that summer. In the last two seasons a lot of attention and expectation has been placed on young pitchers with great projections with hopes of creating a similar run.
